If this were a sane country, it would be Woo himself, along with Cheney, Bush, and Rumsfeld who would be arrested and tried for torture and crimes against humanity.
What the institutionalization of torture by the US as a matter of policy has led to is the following.
First, we have, for all practical intents and purposes, unilaterally withdrawn from any and all human rights accords to which we have been a signatory.
Our political representatives can no longer speak with a straight face about valuing human rights, human dignity, and democracy when they torture, because the world knows they are lying.
Also, when a country tortures prisoners of war, it gives other countries carte blanche to do precisely the same to any
American civilian or military personnel they have captured, making captured Americans infinitely less safe than they would have been otherwise. But, please, let's go after Woo.
