It's Your Fault, Not Mine

by Gary Fleming

So, I’ve done it to you again. My gay marriage series this week has lit a fire under you, and I took all your punches.

This series was designed to do just that. The goal was to challenge your notions of both sides of the gay marriage debate and make you think about things you may not have considered before. I didn’t ask you to agree, just to think.

Two stories particularly grabbed your attention. The first was about a gay black man who is struggling to awaken the black community — which largely opposes gay marriage — to gay rights.

In his eyes, many African-Americans are being hypocritical by not supporting gay rights, considering their own background of oppression and prejudice.

I received buckets of letters saying I had no business equating the civil rights movement to the gay rights movement. So let’s be clear: I made no such argument. I brought you the story of a man who makes that argument. It’s up to you to decide whether you agree.

The second story that got you fired up was one featuring gay marriage opponents who say their stances don’t make them bigots. I brought you three people who voted for Proposition 8 in California but who also say they don’t think being gay is immoral, despite the way they voted.

Well, you just ripped me a new one. You told me that if I was willing to run such a story, I must be willing to run a story on backing slavery and the like. You said I was giving credence to hatemongers and that I ruined your gay pride month celebrations.

So, another point of clarification: For those who said I’m supporting “hatemongers”by printing a certain side of the debate, talk to your fellow readers who told me the opposite the day before.

More importantly, the opinions of the opponents are theirs, not mine. I simply brought you the story, and let you decide for yourselves. By presenting both sides of the debate, I was bound to irk some readers one day, and others the next.

If the story ruined your good time, that’s your fault for letting it get to you that much.

Hoaxter Revisted

American Scofflaw
This is a perfect example of how this hate bill will break America into fragments screaming and pointing fingers at each other. The media has made being a victim such a great thing that every sub group is competing to see who can out-bleed the other.

Just Wondering

The Gay Secretary
War. The ultimate game. An addiction to death and the rush it brings. Even tho war is hell, many players cannot fathom doing anything else..ever. I know such a man. A man trying to leave the "theater" behind but cant because as he puts it, "it is what I am good at." But there is a more sinister underlying reason people such as these return for tour after tour and make the military their life's careers. The true warrior is of a different breed than the ones repulsed by death and destruction but live by the creed, "I like killing things." Blood lust. Pleasure derived in death.

Ever felt it? The blood lust. Ever kill for pleasure, or to see if it is possible to make that shot? I have many times and will again. I have felt the rush of big game hunting, an intensive adrenaline flow that leaves one weak in the knees with the accompanying tale to tell around the fires in elk camp. I have witnessed "buck fever," where one descends into another realm and everything hangs in time that slows to a seemingly eternity with the accompanied pounding of heightened blood pressure and the inability to catch ones breath that erases all memories as the world suspends in the moment. It is addicting. What the non hunter or the Peta bleeding hearts can never understand, the big game hunter knows exactly why war is so popular. We also feel the pleasure from the precision of bullet placement. We know the heightened awareness that comes with hunting dangerous game with the search and destroy of a wounded bear and it is thrilling and unlike anything artificial. We comprehend the mindset it takes to be what the Marines term "a few good men." Make no mistake, we know what it takes and there really is only a few.

The Real Scofflaws Calling The Shots

By Mark Pittman
U.S. taxpayers need to know the risks behind the Federal Reserve’s $2 trillion in lending to financial institutions because the public is now an “involuntary investor” in the nation’s banks, according to a court filing by Bloomberg LP.

The Fed refuses to name the borrowers, the amounts of loans or assets banks put up as collateral under 11 programs, arguing that doing so might set off a run by depositors and unsettle shareholders. Bloomberg, the New York-based company majority- owned by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, sued Nov. 7 under the Freedom of Information Act on behalf of its Bloomberg News unit. It made the new filing yesterday.

And these are the private investors/owners of the Fed (America's privately owned central bank).
And don't forget--you're paying to make these scofflaws wealthy!!!

What's Going On Here?

American Scofflaw
When Army Staff Sergeant Amanda Henderson ran into Staff Sergeant Larry Flores in their Texas recruiting station last August, she was shocked by the dark circles under his eyes and his ragged appearance. "Are you O.K.?" she asked the normally squared-away soldier. "Sergeant Henderson, I am just really tired," he replied. "I had such a bad, long week, it was ridiculous." The previous Saturday, Flores' commanders had berated him for poor performance. He had worked every day since from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., trying to persuade the youth of Nacogdoches to wear Army green. "But I'm O.K.," he told her.

No, he wasn't. Later that night, Flores hanged himself in his garage with an extension cord. Henderson and her husband Patrick, both Army recruiters, were stunned. "I'll never forget sitting there at Sergeant Flores' memorial service with my husband and seeing his wife crying," Amanda recalls. "I remember looking over at Patrick and going, 'Why did he do this to her? Why did he do this to his children?' " Patrick didn't say anything, and Amanda now says Flores' suicide "triggered" something in her husband. Six weeks later, Patrick hanged himself with a dog chain in their backyard shed. (See pictures of suicide in recruiters' ranks.)

Imus As Hitman

By Jessica Heslam

Radio shock jock Don Imus insisted he was joking when he threatened to shoot WTKK host Jay Severin during yesterday’s St. Patrick’s Day broadcast in Boston - but Severin’s agent doesn’t buy it and called the I-Man’s explanation “pathetic.”

The early morning showdown at the Wilbur Theatre - where the 68-year-old Imus told Severin to get off the stage or he’d shoot him - sparked a war of words yesterday between the two camps.

“I heard that Imus’ spokesman tried to characterize this as an ‘obvious joke’ on Imus’ part. That’s pathetic,” said Severin’s agent and attorney, George Tobia.

“Leaving aside the utter inappropriateness of such threats in any context, including joking, that explanation does not fly,” Tobia said. “He threatened to shoot Jay. Twice. And in an agitated and menacing manner. It was not intended for the audience to hear, although a number of people did hear it. If he were joking, why did Imus order him away? That would not make sense.”

Imus spokesman Matthew Hiltzik shot back at Tobia. “With such a delusional, pitiful representative, it’s no surprise that Jay’s career is ‘shot,’ ” Hiltzik said.

The Herald disclosed online yesterday that the confrontation occurred shortly after 6 a.m. at the special Kiss Me I’m Imus event, when Severin went on stage during a commercial break to say hello to friends in the show’s cast.

The two exchanged greetings before Severin walked away. But Imus producer Bernard McGuirk quickly called him back because Imus wanted to talk to him. Severin squatted down to speak with Imus, who was seated in a chair on the stage.

Imus then lashed out at Severin for telling the Herald and his listeners in October that he would no longer appear on the I-Man’s show because he was tired of his insults.

Imus told Severin to get off the stage or “I’m going to shoot you.”

Imus then repeated the threat and turned toward Severin.

“Do you (expletive) understand what I’m saying to you?” he said. “You get off this stage right now or I’m going to shoot you.”

Both Severin and Tobia confirmed the account. Hiltzik also confirmed the exchange, including the shooting remarks, but said Imus - who reportedly has a license to carry a handgun - wasn’t serious. Hiltzik said Imus was not carrying a handgun yesterday.

“This is one of the most desperate attempts for attention that I have ever seen,” Hiltzik said. “He was obviously joking - it was a figure of speech. And just for the record, Don is not very good at shooting people with his pencil.”

Okay, Let Us wade in here.

American Scofflaw
While I understand the anti-smokers concerns about our health, targeting roll your own tobacco for such a huge tax increase is counter-productive. Most roll-your-own tobacco is organically grown whereas the commercial cigarette farms use cheap mineral fertilizers which are laced with polonium.

It is the polonium which is the source of the major health problems one sees with cigarettes (but not with pipes or cigars). and, we know from Dr. Jeffrey Wigand's appearance on "60 Minutes" that commercial cigarette manufacturers artificially increase the addictive components in their products, something roll-your-owns do not.

It seems this tax is intended to protect the profits of the big cigarette manufacturers rather than to address the health issues.

Alan Dershowitz Exposed

Did He Kill His Wife?

Dershowitz sure knows how to deal the dirt, but can he take it? Here is some dirt on Dershowitz, that he has thus far been successfully kept out of view from the general public.

But unfortunately, some people still remember. And now there is the internet. Word gets around. When it comes to a wife-beater, plagiarist and defender of killers, I hope it does.

According to Jack Leavitt, Dershowitz’s first wife found out that he was having an affair with another woman. His wife became enraged and brashly took many of Dershowitz¹s important legal papers from cases he was handling and tossed them into the street to be scattered by the winds to and fro.

In response, Alan Dershowitz allegedly pummeled and beat his wife up so badly that she had to be hospitalized. He then took custody of their two young sons, divorced and stripped his wife of financial support except for the bare minimum allowed.

Would his wife take him for every nickel in a divorce case, or would she commit suicide? She killed herself by jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge. Oddly the fall is 135 feet and it is very rarely fatal. She may have landed on a log, and that might explain the crushed skull.

Now this Is Odd

Alan Dershowitz promptly took a lie detector test to prove his innocence that he did not kill her, but did he? Or, did he have someone else do it? Dershowitz used all of his clout available at his disposal to keep the news out of the newspapers, and to make sure that this sordid episode in his life went down the memory hole.

The Gift That Keeps giving: Mistakes

As the mayor of the suburb of Los Alamitos recalled it, he was perusing his e-mail inbox last Sunday when he came across a photo of the White House that had been altered so that it appeared to be bordered by a huge watermelon patch. “No Easter egg hunt this year,” said the caption beneath the photo.

The mayor, Dean Grose, said he thought the photo had been sent to his private e-mail account in “humor,” and passed it along to a group of friends and associates.

To his surprise, not everyone was amused. The e-mail message was greeted with a flood of complaints to various city offices, and Thursday night, Mr. Grose announced that he would resign at the regular City Council meeting on Monday.

“The attention brought to this matter has sadly created an image of me which is most unfortunate,” he said in a statement. “I recognize that I’ve made a mistake and have taken steps to make sure this is never repeated.”

Hillary's Hog Love Call

American Scofflaw
This is Hilary's version of that infamous scene from the movie Deliverance

Strange Dude

The barreleye (Macropinna microstoma) has extremely light-sensitive eyes that can rotate within a transparent, fluid-filled shield on its head. The fish's tubular eyes are capped by bright green lenses. The eyes point upward (as shown here) when the fish is looking for food overhead.
