Stashing funds in the Caymans to attract foreign investors who wish to invest on the US but without paying US taxes?
I am reminded of the Tom Clancy novel (and movie) "A Clear and Present Danger". The story opens with a wealthy investment manager and close friend of the President, Peter Hardin, murdered by a drug cartel. Eventually it comes out that Hardin's investment company was secretly investing and laundering drug cartel money inside the United States, and Hardin was murdered because he skimmed a little too much off of the top.
Life may imitate art, especially when ones sees almost miraculous profits from an investment company in the middle of the greatest economic downturn in the nation's history.
