Memo to the author of this article: the only nuclear-armed country in the Middle East is Israel!
What Iran is doing, with Russia's technical assistance, is building a power plant. The latest inspections by the IAEA have found absolutely zero nuclear material gone walkabout.
Israel wants the US to destroy all its alleged "existential threats" in the region, which includes just about all of its neighbors. Iraq was just the start, from the perspective of Israeli politicians at the time.
The US was stupid enough to fall for it that time, and we can see just how magnificently well that has turned out for the Iraqi people.
Driving through the tangled mess of police roadblocks and concrete barriers that wall off neighbourhoods in Baghdad, it’s hard to believe this place was once known as the city of peace, and was, until recently, a model of cosmopolitan urbanism. More than eight years have passed since the 2003 US-UK invasion, and the fragmentation of Iraq’s capital mirrors the soul of the nation, still struggling to survive after years of war and occupation. A decade ago, most of the city’s neighbourhoods were mixed. Today, the majority are Shi’a enclaves and a fifth of the Iraqi population remain displaced or refugees.
The US was stupid enough to do it with Iraq; the cost in blood and money has been exorbitant.
And STILL, the official Israeli line is still, "You pay for this war on your own, and kill them for us; let it be your kids doing the fighting, getting maimed for life, and dying- not ours!"
But suddenly, it looks as though Russia is paying attention, and has warned both Israel in no uncertain terms that an attack against Iran would be a "mistake".
Russia and Iran warned the West against a military strike on the Islamic Republic on Monday, saying an attack targeting its nuclear program would lead to civilian casualties and create new threats to global security.
If either the US and/or Israel attempt to bomb the nuclear facilities in Iran, we may well expect to see Russia engage militarily on the part of Iran.
War with a nuclear armed Russia over Iran?!? Please; let's hope that those in the bowels of power in DC aren't seriously thinking that this would be a wonderful idea.
