And, the obvious corollary: Taxes are what keep you poor!
A new study by Joel Slemrod, an economics professor and director of the Office of Tax Policy Research at the University of Michigan's business school, and IRS economist Andrew Johns, based on unpublished Internal Revenue Service data, shows that the rich are different when it comes to paying taxes: They hide more of their income. Here are some of the noncompliance rates by true income, as reported in the study:
